COORDINATOR: MS. ARIN LEARD, ROOM 23
Visit Ms. Arin Leard's STEAM Art Room to see what she is working on and how she continues to infuse Arts into STEM. She is planning great things for her students again this year.
In 2013, Ms. Arin Leard and Mr. Daniel Taylor were invited to a STEAM workshop (through CIESE) at The Steven's Institute of Technology in Hoboken. The program was led by Adam Scribner (who is a past employee of MBOE!) and it brings together science and art classroom teachers to collaborate and also include engineering principles into curriculum. She brought her STEAM ideas to the first annual MHMS Innovation Faire in June 2014 where her tables were packed for hours!!. Ms. Leard was invited to attend another STEAM workshop in the summer of 2014 at Yellowstone Park where she was one of 12 educators selected from across the country. On (October 7, 2014) she led a STEAM workshop session for AENJ in Long Branch, NJ.
The 2014-15 school year brought new ideas from Ms. Leard as she spent much of her time grant writing, coordinating and planning to bring a STEAM Garden to Mount Hebron. This Garden, unlike any that you have probably experienced, is focused on the implementation of STEAM, infusing art, science, math and engineering. Her goal came to fruition in May 2015, when Word Champion sand sculptor, John Gowdy, held two days of lessons for ALL of the 700+ students and staff.
