Mount Hebron is the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, or STEM magnet, in the Montclair School District.  Since becoming the STEM magnet, we have been implementing projects which encourage the arts in STEM…or STEAM.  This fall we established a vision to create an outdoor classroom to teach students STEAM concepts.    The Mount Hebron STEAM Garden will be a space filled with sculptural sand that will be used to teach problem solving, science, math and engineering, as well as sculpture and architecture.   The STEAM Garden will require students to participate in both hands-on and minds-on activities. This is a creative and unique approach to teaching science and math concepts in an alternative way.  Our intention is that the experiences in the STEAM Garden will plant the “seed of interest” that will grow into an exciting and rewarding STEM career.

SPECIAL THANKS TO HOME DEPOT OF BLOOMFIELD AND JERSEY CITY FOR GIFTING US WITH NEEDED MATERIALS.  THANKS ALSO TO MR. STEVEN MOORE FOR HIS ASSISTANCE WITH THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE GARDEN
